Hormonal Imbalances: Why Untreated Issues Can Mean New Hair Growth Even With Electrolysis

Electrolysis is permanent — once a follicle is treated correctly, it won’t grow hair again. But here’s something many clients don’t realize: hormonal imbalances can cause new hair growth in untreated follicles.

For example, conditions like PCOS, thyroid disorders, or changes in medication can trigger new follicles to start producing hair. This doesn’t undo your electrolysis progress — the hairs we treated are gone for good — but it does mean fresh hairs may appear in nearby areas.

That’s why it’s important to think of your journey as both treatment and maintenance. Electrolysis will permanently remove the hair you have now, but addressing underlying hormonal issues with your doctor can help prevent new growth from developing down the road.

Many of my clients find that once they balance their hormones (through medication, diet, or lifestyle changes), their electrolysis results are easier to maintain and last even longer.

The takeaway? Electrolysis is powerful and permanent, but hormones always play a role in our skin and hair. Together, we can target the hair you have — while you work with your care team to manage what your body may produce in the future.
