Why You Should Avoid Acids, Retinoids, and the Like Before Treatment

If you’re a skincare lover, you probably use products like retinol, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid. They’re amazing for exfoliation and anti-aging — but before an electrolysis treatment, they can actually work against you.

These products make the skin more sensitive and fragile. When combined with electrolysis, this increases your risk of irritation, redness, or even post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

That’s why I recommend:

  • Stop using retinoids, acids, and benzoyl peroxide at least 3–5 days before your appointment.

  • Keep your skin routine gentle: cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.

  • After your session, wait until your skin has fully healed before reintroducing actives.

Your electrolysis results will be just as effective without your actives — and your skin will thank you for the extra care.
