Why Does the Skin Feel More Sensitive as You Continue Electrolysis Treatments?

Many clients are surprised when electrolysis starts to feel more sensitive after several months of treatment instead of less. This is very common, and it doesn’t mean anything is wrong.

As treatments progress, the easy hairs are already gone. What remains are often deeper, more stubborn follicles that require more precision and energy to treat effectively.

There are a few reasons sensitivity can increase over time:

  • Fewer hairs mean we’re working closer together in the same area

  • Treated skin has less “buffer” than untreated skin

  • Inflammation can accumulate with frequent sessions

  • Nervous system awareness increases once you know what to expect

The good news is that your skin also adapts. While some sessions may feel more intense, healing usually becomes faster and more predictable as your skin learns how to respond.

Sensitivity does not mean damage. It means your body is responding to treatment, and adjustments can always be made to keep you comfortable.

If discomfort increases, that’s a conversation, not a failure.
